One of the Mongolian most popular festivals is The thousand Bactrian Camel Festival. This takes place in the Gobi Desert since 1997 and gives you a rare opportunity to interact with the Bactrian camels. During the festival nomadic herders show off their incredible skills during the biggest camel race in the world and camel polo, alongside cultural activities involving traditional music, dance, colorful costumes and camel woolen products. The main aim of the Camel Festival is to protect and preserve Bactrian camel population, which has been steadily declining over the past decades.

After the festivities end, travelers are able to ride the camels and visit some of the Gobi Desert’s unique sights. This includes dinosaur bones. This is a great opportunity to help you learn about nomad camel herders.
